I tried my luck at kite-surfing with the pros at 3B at Deer Creek Reservoir yesterday. I was told in three short lessons I would be flyin’. So far, there has been more splashing than flying. Because, you know, I needed another expensive adrenaline sport.
Utah is known for the “Greatest Snow on Earth,” but you could easily swap wind for snow in that statement. With the temperature differential between the valley and Wasatch Back, a consistent afternoon wind blows up the canyons, making spots like Deer Creek (outside Heber City) a great place for kite surfing. Even in winter, you can strap on some skis and kite surf the famed Wasatch pow!
I was lucky enough the learn a few ropes…err wings, from Don Losee who helped introduce Utah to a sport more akin to Maui than the Wasatch, as well as a local pro, Andrew Muse.
